With portable fences each meeting will be on fresh ground.

Black Forest Lodge

The natural landscape of Black Forest Lodge provides an ideal setting for a day out in the Devon countryside. Home to traditional Point-to-Point, members of the public can enjoy the environment of competitive racing with a fantastic day out in the countryside. With bookmakers on site, quality hot refreshments prepared by Hunt members, licenced bar selling local real ale and a great atmosphere, this is an enjoyable day out for everyone.

Point to point horse race meetings are held at BFL during the winter and are open to all spectators. Horses race over birch fences for a distance of mainly three miles (some two and a half miles maiden races) ridden by amateur jockeys who are some of the top riders in the country. A keen army of volunteers work many weekends getting the course ready and on the day give members of the public an enjoyable day out in fantastic surroundings. Viewing is excellent from the hill overlooking the course. Horses can be viewed in the paddock before placing your bets with the professional bookies who attend all meetings. Race cards are available together with full commentary and pre and post race announcements. Since pre Christmas racing was established BFL has staged one the first meetings on the opening weekend.

BFL is increasingly popular with owners, trainers and jockeys. When most race courses are struggling with the huge rainfall during the winter months BFL comes into its own as the sandy soil drains well. The turf and grass growth have been carefully nurtured over the years and the going receives high praise especially in the wet.

The course is well supported by Point-to-Point yards in the West Country and further afield. Owners and trainers are eager to start their horses' season off at the meetings through November to March.
